Both the treatment and care was excellent. The nursing staff were kind, friendly and very professional.

Thankyou to all the staff who treated and cared for my dad on night of 16th sept. Special mention to Andre who expertly got dad into the car so we could get him home safely

My GP recently referred me for ovarian cancer screening. The doctors and other professionals I met where professional and took great care of me. However, the systems and processes in place to deal with my simple, and it happily turns out, non-existent case, where very slow and time wasteful. For example, having reviewed my case and decided there was nothing to deal with - eg, I was totally cancer free - I then got a letter inviting me to a meeting several weeks (from memory about 6 weeks) later. The letter had no indication of what I should expect - clear, not clear, more investigations - and so of course I was anxious and concerned. When I met the consultant he basically said there was nothing to worry about and that he realised the process was distressing for me, and also a terrible waste of hospital resource and time - why on earth was he spending limited clinical time to tell me nothing was wrong when it could have gone in a letter.

My father was admitted to seu on 10/2/17 with tummy pain and sickness, he was dignosed with a bowel obstruction the 4 days he was in there nothing really done, he was discharged 4 days later because he had "eaten" and he was more poorly than when he was admitted! On arrival home he became more delirious and in pain that before so an ambulance was called they refused to take him as he was antibiotics, thru out the week my father became more and more poorly he eventually went back in hospital 6 days later where he developed feacel pertitoitis and pertitoitis and was operated on 2 day later, he never woke up from his operation as the infection he had effect his main organs and killed him. I feel if this matter was dealt with sooner he would still be here now.

My son has been suffering for months now with a digestive system which is clearly failing him. Blood & other tests have come back negative but he is now completely floored wracked daily by chronic bouts of sickness & diarrhoea, accompanied by hot & cold sweats. Since he wasn't at deaths door a call to 111 would only ever elicit the response of "Go to your GP in the morning" Tuesday night was so bad that after trying desperately to get my GP to return my request for a call, I managed to bag the golden 6pm emergency appt. So my son was duly dragged from his sick bed with the promise that the GP might be able prescribe him something to finally stop the pain & sickness. The GP himself didn't disappoint in that after a thorough check up he announced my son should be seen up at the JR (John Radcliffe Hospital). He duly rang and spoke at great lengths with the on call Senior Medical Registrar & was insistent that when my son arrived he should be seen immediately due to his condition & it should be noted that when seen, there would be no need to put him through the battery of checks our GP had already done. Armed with a letter plus the assurance that this would happen (along with several 'sick bowls') My 'ex' took him on the long drive up there. They arrived at 8pm, & you guessed it, all mention of THAT conversation our GP had with the Senior on call Registrar was duly ignored & he was put to the back of the queue. Already exhausted & in severe pain they waited - an hour later they took bloods!!! At 12am I received a call from my desperately exhausted, sick son saying they were still waiting, at that point I said come home. Words fail me!! I know many have experienced so much worse but what the NHS put my son through tonight was tantamount to torture! The promise of being seen quickly and having to endure several long car journeys plus waiting in, no doubt,an extremely uncomfortable waiting area whilst suffering the symptoms he is suffering - shocking!! Where is the care there?!! So back to square one & trying to contact the Doc tomorrow to get some pain relief for him at least. Then continuing the battle for answers!

This review relates only to the audiology department as I have had need of using many departments in the John Radcliffe. The audiology department has been excellent.

My father was seen by a student doctor at the eye hospital who was efficient, polite and asked detailed questions. I liked the fact she introduced herself before starting her consultation. She discussed her diagnosis with a senior doctor and they then both discussed further treatment with my father. I did have to ask a very direct question about potential causes for his illness and I don't feel we would have had an answer if I hadn't pressed for this. However, once asked, the senior doctor offered further information which put my father at ease. It's a shame the appointments system lets down the service. Referred as an emergency via fax, my father eventually had to call to make an appointment, and when we arrived this morning, the appointment wasn't on the system. That said, the receptionist quickly resolved the issue and we were seen within 5 minutes of the original appointment.

Took 3 hours to receive full care expected on the day. Others arriving at same time took less than two. Information on why such time was need was not forthcoming and eventually learned that records were in different storage that required more time. Other observations led be to think that some equipment needed for my appointment was 'missing' and that extra time was needed to locate it. Positive interactions with staff and in positive care received.
